What the New Yorker and Tin House science fiction... →
io9 has a great review of the Tin House science issue and The New Yorker science fiction issue.  I can’t wait to get my copy of the latter, though the review and table of contents have already given me minor reasons to pause and accept that I cannot be really satisfied.

A New Theme
I’ve been mulling over the idea of making this tumblog less of a personal interest link-dump and, thus, a bit more directed.  To that end, I think that I have a set of three themes to which I’d like to dedicate my postings. Gender studies - this could, at the outside, mean posts geared at a single gender-identification group.  However, it might simply mean egregious mistakes made the...

My least favorite thing about graduating
I know it’s a ways off, since I’m taking the slow route in finishing my thesis, but there is something weighing on me.  When I graduate, I’m going to lose my access to OED online.  This is a turrible revelation.

Interview Questions
I was recently asked in an interview how many gas stations there are in the United States.  Immediately, I knew the point of this question was not the answer, but the process.  In addition to that, it seemed the kind of question Google interviewers throw around to discern a candidate’s critical thinking skills. With that knowledge, I was kinda thrilled to be asked one of these questions. ...

Back to Thesis Research
Today, I have the pleasure of revisiting sources I read a year ago, then looking for anything that might have been published since. Only after rereading 150 pages of criticism and reading ~300 pages on my more precise subject will I be able to outline. Uggh.

Will Sweden abolish the concept of gender? →
From a legal standpoint, I couldn’t agree more.  Sociologically speaking, I’m terribly intrigued. The argument that children would somehow be confused by the existence of a “third-gender” is short-sighted and asinine.  It does nothing to take into account the extremes possible of a developing mind. Honestly, it simply says volumes about those who stand behind such an...
