That said, my Literary Scholarship class is reading the novel and watching the film this week, so I have revisited each.  I feel the same about the novel, but I...

I showed them that during the American Revolution drunkards, laggards, prostitutes, and pirates pioneered many of the freedoms and pleasures we now cherish — including non-marital sex, interracial socializing, dancing, shopping, divorce, and the weekend — and that the Founding Fathers, in the name of democracy, opposed them. I argued not only that many white Americans envied...

I am certainly in favor of such lists, not as mandate, but to be made possible by the support of animal welfare organizations and local/state governments. I would imagine this might be used as a dating tool.  Nobody wants to date that awful girl who chucked puppies in the river.

Quite often, these lists are predictable and poorly thought out.  That is not the case here.  Nearly every item will challenge some established convention, be they about 18th century life or indeed the Founding Fathers themselves. Always keep in mind these were men with good ideas.  That said they were politicians.  On a scale, lets call it a wash.  It is the best outcome one can expect.

I think what I love most about this story is the forthrightness of the image editor in explaining how much work goes into pictures originating at least 246 million miles from terra firma.  Oh, and the fact that that information doesn’t silence the wild imaginations of conspiracy theorist who, for some unknown reason, can’t grasp our ability to take such pictures and thus believes the...
